I get to review Image titles (and other indie published titles) over at a site called TMStash.com. Thanks to that I get to read a lot of Image comics...here are a few favorites:
Chew - one of the strangest premises ever but a LOT of fun. Tony Chu is a cibopath (when he eats something he knows what has happened to it...very helpful in homicide investigations if more than a little gross). This is a whole world filled with strange food-based powers, told with tongue-in-cheek (pun intended). I got to interview John Layman and Rob Guillory at HeroesCon this year, and they have great plans ahead for this comic, which is in the mid-30's on a 60 issue run. My favorite Image title!
Lazarus - Greg Rucka writes this tale of a dystopian future where North America is ruled by mafia-like families, each with their champion...a "Lazarus" with highly enhanced abilities. There is intrigue, treachery and great action in this one.
Ten Grand - this series follows a former hit man who tried to go straight for the love of his life...only to find them both killed during his last hit. His love went to Heaven...and he has a strange deal with an angelic figure to do jobs for the "good guys"...with the reward being that every time he dies a righteous death he gets 5 minutes with his beloved. This is from J. Michael Straczynski, and it is a great series well worth checking out.
Jupiter's Legacy - sort of a JSA-meets-Kardashians series, this follows a very noble group of World War II era heroes who now have super powered children who are more interested in fame than in saving the world. Mark Millar's series is one of the very best new series of the year.
Rocket Girl - this has Amy Reeder'a (Batwoman, Madmae Xanadu) excellent artwork, about a teenaged cop from an alternate "future" sent back to the 1980's to stop a terrible mistake...and if she succeeds her own future won't even exist! This isms great series, with issue #3 just about to hit the stores. I got to interview Amy and writer Brandon Montclare when this was still a Kickstsrter, and I'm a big fan of this series.
...and that's without getting to Invincible, Spawn, Walking Dead, Matt Fraction's Sex Criminals or Kelly Sue DeConnick's Pretty Deadly. But, the four at the top of this post are my personal favorites at Image. What about yours?
